Glass Dipping Pens are not just fine writing instruments, but often works of art that allow a pen aficionado to truly express their inner personality. They add an artistic elegance when placed on your desk or displayed on a bookshelf or mantle. Many pen enthusiasts have a collection of glass dipping pens since their simplicity allows a writer to try out many different types of inks in rapid succession. Changing inks is as easy as dipping the pen tip into water, wiping with a cotton towel and then dipping the pen into new ink! Glass dipping pens provide a nice flow of ink over paper. As long as you have a bottle of ink nearby, glass pens help you capture your thoughts anytime of the day or night.
Glass dipping pens are handcrafted and, as such, each batch varies in color. This makes each pen a unique item for your collection. Glass dipping pens with a glass tip or nib can dull after continued use. To restore the fine point, gently sanding the tip back into a point with some very fine sandpaper. Glass Dipping Pens make a perfect graduation, anniversary, wedding, birthday or holiday gift. Many writers use them for sketching as well. They make a classy statement at company recognition award ceremony and will wow your visitors when used with a guest book.
Glass Dip Pens hold ink in the small yet deep grooves at the tip. The tip is equivalent to a nib in a fountain pen. These grooves hold the ink as you write. Glass dip pens work best with thinner inks as the thin grooves don’t allow a more viscous ink to flow very well. If you use a thicker ink that hugs the nib then dries, it can be difficult to clean completely. Dip your glass pen about halfway through the tip of the pen, then rub it gently along the rib of your inkwell to remove any excess ink. To begin writing, use a light amount of pressure (as compared to the steel nib pens), then vary that pressure to see what works best for you - just don’t apply excessive pressure as you write or the glass pen might break. Try writing at an angle and not vertically. Clean your pen regularly as you write by dipping it in water every 2-3 minutes and then wiping it off with a cotton cloth.
