Sealing Wax Lamp

$15.00

This sealing wax lamp with a glass base will invoke the feel of yesteryear as you use it to melt wax sticks and apply your seals to cards, envelopes or craft projects. It is made of nickel-plated brass and uses paraffin lamp oil or denatured alcohol as a fuel to produce a smoke-free flame, the best flame to melt sealing wax. Quickly rotate your wax stick about an inch above the flame until you see a mushroom head of melted wax appear, then pour the melted wax onto the surface you wish to seal in a classic, elegant manner. You can also cut your wax sticks into 1/4" pieces, place in a spoon and hold the spoon over the flame to melt.

Sealing Wax Lamp

This glass base sealing wax lamp will invoke the feel of yesteryear as you use it to melt wax sticks and apply your seals to cards, envelopes or craft projects.

The glass base is faceted so you can angle the lamp on its side for a better position if needed. This glass lamp for wax seals can be filled to the 'joint' that separates the globe from faceted base with 3 oz of fuel. It has an adjustment knob for inclining and includes a 3/16” wick. Adjusting the height of the wick affects the strength of the flame. Extinguish the flame with a snuffer or blow it out.

CAUTION: Not recommended for children. Exercise care when using an open flame.

How To Use a Sealing Wax Lamp

Sealing wax sticks can be cut into ¼” pieces and placed on a spoon that is held over the flame to melt the wax, or the sticks can melted at one end by holding them about an inch above the open flame of a sealing wax lamp and then quickly rotating the wax stick. Don’t get the wax stick too close to the flame or it will blacken the wax. Continue spinning the wax stick until you see a large amount of melted wax create a mushroom cap. The wax is now ready to be used. Pour the melted wax onto your desired location. When using an oval wax seal, pour your wax in a circular shape. If you’re using a square wax seal, pour into a square shape. You can use the end of the wax stick to stir the melted wax into the proper shape. Let the wax sit for about 7 seconds to slightly cool, then, while the wax is still soft, quickly and firmly press your seal directly down into it and release. If you didn't chill your seal, wait 10-15 seconds for the wax to cool before removing your seal. You can touch the edge of the wax underneath your seal to see if it is tacky, or if it has cooled. Wait until the wax doesn’t stick to your finger, then remove your seal. For best results with your impression, chill your seal beforehand in a bowl of ice or with an ice pack.
