Inkwells are small ink bottles, jars or containers used to hold drawing pen ink, India inks or acrylic inks close at hand for the calligrapher or pen enthusiast to replenish ink for their dipping pens. They are usually made of glass or porcelain, and many of the handcrafted Italian inkwells have ornate silver, brass or pewter flourishes to transport the writer back to an earlier, more romantic time. These are perfect as desk inkwells and some sets have inkwells and pen rests attached. A hinged lid or screw-on cap will help prevent contamination, evaporation and accidental spillages, helping ensure that you don’t waste a drop of your ink! You can use an Ink Shot Inkwell when you only need a small amount of ink. Inkwells can also be used as your fountain pen ink source when filling your fountain pens’ reservoir.
Drawing Pen Ink is water-based and gets its color from a dye instead of a pigment; this means it can fade over time. Drawing pen ink requires a dipping pen or quill pen that you dip into the ink. The ink collects on the pen’s nib or tip. Drawing pen ink is a thin ink and mastering its use without smearing or dribbling the ink takes time. Calligraphers and artists typically use drawing pen ink.
